Full Biography

Professional Experience

Mark is the Founder of Identity Online, a broadband network created to distribute educational programming, research, e-learning and information related to complex identity and diversity challenges. Identity Online will be on the air in 2007. The FutureWork Institute and Ivy Consulting Group are Mark's strategic partners and they bring over 150 Global 500 companies into the network.

Mr. Williams has provided consultation for a wide variety of clients, including Exxon Corporation, AT & T, the US Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, Colgate Palmolive, the Agency for International Development, the Central Intelligence Agency, Microsoft, Harvard Medical School, UNISYS, Cisco Systems, Office Depot, Microsoft, EDS and dozens of other Fortune 500 companies. In 1998, Mr. Williams served on the design and facilitation team for the first Congressional Bi-Partisan Retreat held in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

For nearly ten years, Mr. Williams was the worldwide diversity consultant for the Marriott International family of companies, coordinating all aspects of their diversity strategy and education programs. He consulted with Marriott's CEO and the presidents of all operating companies and divisions to customize a multimedia program that was used as the basis of their classroom, satellite and video-based training created to reach their global workforce.

Before his tenure with Marriott, Mr. Williams was a consultant with the CIA, working with top appointed political leaders to analyze shifting political and social conditions and help the Intelligence Community respond to the impact of the post-Cold War era. Prior to working with the CIA, Mr. Williams was an Expert Consultant for two years with the United States Department of Education, where he served as a consultant to senior managers and political appointees.

Mr. Williams began his career with acceptance into the NBC Corporate Associates Program, a competitive management program developed for a select group of individuals in the broadcast industry.

Published Works

Mr. Williams is the author of the bestselling book The 10 Lenses: Your Guide to Living and Working in a Multicultural World, which offers new thinking on understanding and managing cultural diversity. Validated by comprehensive research and diagnostics developed in collaboration with The Gallup Organization, The 10 Lenses framework has been adopted by a wide array of Fortune 500 companies and other organizations and academic institutions, including American Express, Avon, Hearst Publications, Colgate Palmolive, Johnson & Johnson, the Army War College, Chevron Texaco, Merck, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida and the World Bank.

Mark's recently published book and research, Your Identity Zones, expands on The 10 Lenses approach, outlining a practical, dynamic framework for personal growth as well as cross-cultural group and community understanding. Identity Zones offers the skills, tools, and strategies to address conflict at a deeper level and put more authentic connections within our grasp. Zogby International conducted the underlying research in March 2004, and the book was released in October of 2004.

Multimedia Education

Mr. Williams is well known as an engaging, dynamic educator who blends his expertise in diversity, organizational development and cross-cultural understanding with music, video and other multimedia elements. He is an accomplished composer and has collaborated with acclaimed performers and activists such as Vanessa Williams, the late Christopher Reeve, Dennis Quaid, Al Jarreau and Danny Glover. His award-winning multimedia products are actively used in the diversity and community initiatives of organizations, such as Bank of America, Coca Cola, Georgia Pacific, and State Farm, the National Conference of Mayors, The National Education Association, Channel One and the American Urban Radio Network. His inspirational composition "One Song, Many Voices," is the official theme song of the United Nations International Day of Tolerance, and has been translated into six languages by Warner Music. He serves as Chairman of the One Song, Many Voices Foundation, and was honored with the Friends of the United Nation Global Tolerance Award in 1998 for his work promoting tolerance and cultural understanding around the globe through music and education.

Mr. Williams has been quoted widely in business publications such as Fast Company, national magazines such as Savoy, Black Enterprise, and newspapers ranging from the San Francisco Chronicle to the Chicago Tribune to the Boston Globe. Mr. Williams has also appeared as a guest on Tavis Smiley's nationally syndicated radio program, and television programs including Bloomberg News, CBS ' the Early Show, and the CNN Financial News Network, and this is America with Dennis Holley.

Education & Professional Affiliations

Mr. Williams holds a Master's degree in organizational psychology from The American University in Washington, D.C., and is a faculty member of the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science. Williams is also a member of The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Mark served as the Chairman of the American Association of Advertising Agency's blue ribbon advisory panel on diversity, created to help its member organizations navigate through sensitive industry driven diversity issues.
